I actually wasn’t sure about this book. I saw this a few times on YouTube and around social media and fell in love with the book cover. I know not to judge a book by it’s cover...but I am big sucker for books with hand lettering for the design. I also love fantasy and stories where characters go on a quest. I really enjoyed this book in fact it was so good that I read it in three days. It was fast paced and had tons of great action. I also appreciated a main female character who was strong and clever. She knew who to get out of horrible situations and never let anyone tear her down. I also enjoyed her interaction with the other character Cohen who is her friend and who was accused of the murder. I thought he was a really interesting character and the opposite of Britta who tends to be on the rational side. Lastly, I enjoyed getting a quick glance at the world building. The world that has medieval elements along with magic. I totally recommend this book to anyone.

I really enjoyed this book

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, it had hints of romance, action and adventure wrapped in a fantasy world. At some slower points, I had to push to get to more exciting parts but you find that in most books. The story revolves Britta Flannery, an outcast because of her mother’s heritage. She was meant to catch her father’s killer and old apprentice, Cohen, but upon discovering his innocence they embark on a journey to find the real killer. On the way, they discover that their king is being mind-controlled and the country is going to war for nothing. Set in a fantasy world, with only two countries mentioned and on the brink of war. What I liked about the story was the action and plot twists near the rising action and climax of the story. What I disliked were some predictable moments and at some points, the flow of writing seemed awkward and forced. The characters changed a bit but not really, they were pretty static. There were a few humorous moments, but some seemed like they were supposed to be funny but they weren’t. All in all, it’s not the best book I've read but not the worst. I would recommend to fantasy fans, with a bit of romance. I would recommend if you want a quick read in between waiting for series or something.
