Interesting insight into two Americans (Unitarian Universalists) who braved WWII Europe to assist in smuggling out dissidents and Jews. Most touching were the children's voyages and interviews as they entered NYC Harbor. The film loses a bit of momentum as it turns to the impact that this type of lonely and demanding missionary work had on the couple's marriage--but the full story overall is a reminder that even just a few good acts are better than doing nothing.

Little known story (to me anyway), of how a Unitarian Universalist minister and his wife braved the Nazis and saved men, women, and children in France and Czechoslovakia during WWII. They also helped several notable European figures escape through Spain to the U.S. Their sacrifice had detrimental effects on their marriage and family especially their children who they left at home in Massachusetts. Ken Burns had a hand in this production, and it shows with enlightening testimony by friends and those saved by the Sharps. Excellently done!
