The culmination of nearly 30 years of reporting on Donald Trump, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter, David Cay Johnston, takes a revealingly close look at the mogul's rise to power and prominence.
Covering the long arc of Trump s career, Johnston tells the full story of how a boy from a quiet section of Queens, NY would become an entirely new, and complex, breed of public figure. Trump is a man of great media savvy, entrepreneurial spirit, and political clout. Yet his career has been plagued by legal troubles and mounting controversy.
From the origins of his family s real estate fortune, to his own too-big-to-fail business empire; from his education and early career, to his whirlwind presidential bid, "The Making of Donald Trump" provides the fullest picture yet of Trump s extraordinary ascendency. Love him or hate him, Trump s massive influence is undeniable, and figures as diverse as Woody Guthrie (who wrote a scathing song about Trump s father) and Red Scare prosecutor Roy Cohn, mob bosses and high rollers, as well as the average American voter, have all been pulled into his orbit.
Drawing on decades of interviews, financial records, court documents, and public statements, David Cay Johnston, who has covered Trump more closely than any other journalist working today, gives us the most in-depth look yet at the man who would be president.

The Making of a Demented Bully is a more fitting title.

Should be a subtitle, though: "The Unmaking of America."

The work that David Cay Johnston did on The Fine Print was fantastic. Well researched and solid about corporations in America. A must read. So then I searched for more of his work and read this book with similar expectations. Being so 'anti-Hillary' didn't stop me from wanting to learn more about Trump and I thought I had a good source. Nothing Trump did, as reported by Johnston, was 'all that bad' as compared to Hillary or other politicians. He was a bit of a scammer, and certainly an ego, and a player - but if I put him in perspective of The Fine Print characters - Trump is a saint. He isn't nearly as conniving, and he doesn't think "big fraud" like the corporations, because he is a small fish in a big pond. Would I want him around my children? Hell, no. But, if you stack him again other members of Congress - he's probably around the same level of corruption.

I pulled David Cay Johnston up on YouTube and wanted to hear him speak on Trump. You know.... as I listened to him, it just didn't ring true. Something is very off with this book - written in a hurried space of 30 days - it isn't much of anything. If you really line up the facts, it fails to make its point. Don't be fooled - be discerning. It makes my mind wonder if Johnston was handsomely paid or was coerced somehow into writing this book.

After slamming Trump throughout his presentation, one of the questions Johnston was asked in the YouTube interview was, 'did you find anything good about Mr. Trump?' to which he immediately replied 'no, nothing' or words of that sort. Seeing Trump's family, makes me disbelieve Johnston. It seems Johnston wanted to keep his reputation by reporting 'truths' about Trump but reported in a style that fit the pre-arranged agenda.

Two wrongs don't make a right... Hillary vs Trump - let's not go there. Let's dig deep into all of Congress, NIH, IRS, CIA, NSA, etc., etc. Judge each one and weed them out - I don't know how to do that without a missile removing them all and that's not a good path either. Putting each one in the spotlight and saying "No" to the corruption, standing up and leaving the United Flight when that doctor was dragged unconscious off the flight - being ready to say 'no' whenever we peacefully can to stop us all from being turned into the "Borg'/zombies.

Would love to hear others' comments on this.

This book presents Trump exactly as he is -- consistant and irrefutable facts from various sources are presented logically. Politically speaking you can either support Trump or not, but you cannot argue with who he is and what makes him tick -- his actions since the '70's speak for themselves.
Well done and kudos to the author.

Reporter David Cay Johnston has been covering Donald Trump's many and varied business dealings and professional relationships--and their frequent legal and ethical entanglements--for some 30 years now, and his findings are eye-opening to say the least. This book should have been required reading for anyone contemplating casting their vote for Trump in the 2016 elections; the outcome might (might) have been very different.
For one thing, it cannot possibly bode well for our nation that the man Donald Trump chose as his attorney and mentor--Trump has described Cohn as a second father--was none other than Roy Cohn, the vicious henchmen and sidekick to Senator Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy'S red-baiting witch hunting of the 1950s wrecked the lives and careers of countless innocent people.

Trump bashers - WE will make America great again for you too. You only believe the evil liberal media's rhetoric.... this book is nothing but all lies from the liberals.

Excellent expose of Donald Trump. Good information of the "wonders" of this man. NOT. Too bad his supporters didn't have time to read this before the election, although I imagine reading is not one of their favorite activities.

This is a very important book, revealing Trump, based on "many thousands of pages of Trump documents" the author collected.
Especially striking is the chapter on Trump's mistreatment of his workers.
