Great atmosphere and great art, as usual - but not much really happens. We don't learn anything about Hellboy that we didn't already know. All the same, I love seeing kid-Hellboy and would enjoy more books featuring him.
The plot's a little thin, but it's such a treat to see little mini Hellboy here! Especially the panels where he's drawn to look more like the version we know and love from other volumes -- not sure if Mignola did these himself or if Fegredo is just amazing at mimicking the trademark Mignola style? But I love them. In general, def. worth picking up as it adds to the Hellboy mythos in interesting ways but is still a really enjoyable ride.
Excellent. A touching and scary story of Hellboy as a boy. The Midnight Circus is pretty explicit in its influences (Pinocchio, Ray Bradbury) and that's a strength. The story and art compliment each other to make Hellboy an even more intriguing character than he was before reading this. A great addition to the Hellboy legend.
