As the third movie in The Before Trilogy opens, we find Jesse and Celine on vacation in Greece with their children. Unlike Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, this one gives quite a bit of screen time to other characters in their lives, as their relationship now belongs to more than just the two of them. Here they find themselves not in the lust-filled passionate affair we've seen in the previous two films, but a relationship that's bogged-down with the usual long-term relationship difficulties (although, the love is still there). This is not my favorite of the three but I do appreciate its realness and have become such a fan of director Richard Linklater's work and the way he gives his audiences an almost voyeuristic view of "real life."

Richard Linklater brings his romantic drama trilogy to a satisfying close with this cerebral, though no less affecting, look at a couple in turmoil. Brilliantly co-written by Linklater and his two stars, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, this is a savvy tale for grown-ups set in a seaside Eden littered with the kind of snakes and apples that all relationships must eventually face—from past regrets and transgressions now hastily resurrected in the heat of argument to ice cold appraisals of what the future may hold. But throughout it all there remains that undercurrent of passion which made the first two instalments so compellingly watchable, for even at this late hour we still have our fingers crossed. And, as always, Linklater’s cast makes it all painfully believable with a trenchant script that never stoops to cheap melodrama. In one perfectly conceived passage taking place at an impromptu brunch the director actually manages to encapsulate all three films when Jesse and Celine are suddenly surrounded by reflections of themselves—the young couple on their left are still blushing with first love; the husband and wife across from them are trying to keep the flame alive; and the widow and widower to their right recall their lost loves with sad fondness. If Before Sunrise featured fresh-faced naifs taking off into calm blue skies and Before Sunset achieved altitude with the first signs of turbulence, then Before Sunset shows our two protagonists finally coming back to Earth for a precarious but nevertheless hopeful three-point landing. A superb piece of cinema all around.

Watched about 30 minutes of this. I didn't like it.

I loved the first two movies, but this third one was a disappointment. As a change from the original romance, we get to see Celine and Jesse fighting for much of the movie. Another way to do something different in the series would be to show a couple so busy and surrounded by family and friends they barely have a moment alone together. I found the scenes with Jesse and Celine interacting with other characters the most interesting in the movie, and would have been happy with more of that. Each of the Before movies shows a relatively short slice of life, and Before Midnight was a slice I didn't particularly enjoy witnessing.

Before Midnight has none of the charm and romance of the first two films in this trilogy, there is a reason that most romantic films don't have sequels, it is because people don't want to see the couple they fell in love with, 10 years later arguing and saying how horrible the other is - the acting and writing is still good, but instead of ending what could have been a great romantic trilogy on a high note, this film is kind of a bummer, I would rather keep my pleasant memories of the first two and forget about this depressing film.

She is apiece of work (that b is cra-cra) and it really got on my nerves. I missed the first pic and thought the second was interesting but in the third i jusr wanted her to shut up! Ive never been married so im no expert and i agree she/wife shouldnt have to uproot her life/deny her dream job to please her man but it just seems like she likes to argue. Theres no compromise with her and she can do no wrg and is always the victim(takes one to know one). Stand your ground and be stron but take a zanax some time/chill out, f ur hubby and pick up the convo tomorrow.

Some interesting insights into life, but an extremely uninteresting plot.

The 3rd but probably not the last installment of a romantic love drama series promotes a feminist oppression that doesn't exist as it's excuse to be another anti-marriage film unfortunately. This is screwing up and will continue to screw up a lot of married women worldwide in real life literally,BUT I DIGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the first two films, Before Sunrise is my favorite though Before Sunset is also good. I saw this at a film festival in Penticton and it was a unique experience given I was the youngest attendee and perhaps the only one emotionally invested in this film series.

It's a leap forward to when Jesse and Celine have each other and two children with one(?) more from a previous marriage of Jesse's.

The film is gorgeous, filmed in Greece, and the scenes and the dialogue are such that it continues the series in fine form. It is racy, given that there is nudity and sexuality in scenes of the film but this is a more grounded relationship than most Hollywood films portray.

I know I am not the only fan of the series nor of this film but clearly few are among the people who've commented on this film here at this site.

I've watched this film more than once, having it on dvd, and my most recent time was with someone whom I care about and so that added to the experience of the film, even if they didn't appreciate it the way I do.

I saw this movie on DVD as I was absolutely bored with "Before Sunset." I was bored with this movie too. I tried!
