This second feature film with Bruce Lee as the fight choreographer, out grossed his film of the year before (The Big Boss aka Fists of Fury).
It was a possible account of a real Chinese Martial Artist, Huo Yuanjia, a co-founder of the Chin Woo Athletic Association in 1909, Shanghai. His death was in 1910, at the age of 42, not known for sure if by intentional poisoning or by treatment for his ailments. In this film, Chen (Bruce) suspects that the occupying Japanese have killed his teacher and seeks revenge.
Bruce is more masterful than before and perhaps one of my favourites, as he shows a tender side and the ending makes me cry every time!
Jet Li, also makes an attempt to cover this story, of doubt, discrimination and revenge, in his 1994, Fist of Legend.
