Everyone should view this movie at least once to avoid the repeat of this history in the future. Continue positive evolution of humankind. What is it about humankind that creates this need to suppress a group of people whether by gender, ethnicity, working class, etc? Wouldn't the world be better with everyone working together? Debate/negotiation skills should be mandatory in global education. Then we can intellectually discuss issues & come to a common solution vs control people.

Wow! What a film!

This movie had much more violence than I had expected, they literally and figuratively did not pull any punches on this one (OK, not quite literally as I am sure the actors really literally pulled punches in the creation of the movie ;-) ). But, the violence added to the grittiness and the reality of the plot and the times and gave a true highlight of what these brave women went through to help forward the cause of women's equality.

I also appreciated that the movie-makers included the complexities and nuances that existed in this context. E.g. the suffragettes sometimes took questionable actions, and debated amongst themselves about these actions, which was highlighted in the film. In another example was the warring of emotions in the investigator tasked with stopping the suffragettes.

Overall, a solid movie that gives a realistic look at the time, place, people, and context of the early suffragette movement in the UK.

A good drama based on true events, and a good reminder to people of both sexes how important it is to exercise one's right to vote.

Watched on Netlfix before they removed it. The movie brings you right into this world. I watched most of it on a small Tablet screen and really felt engaged with this. I know see the modern #Me Too movements, the marches in Washington on January 20th, in a different light and feel more engaged with the movements that are shaping around me then before looking at this movie.

The purpose of a good film is to expand your mind and make you consider other perspectives that you are either against, or indifferent to and bring you into their world and minds and struggles. As a man watching this film I was truly drafted in a world that I would not understand could even exist, or has existed in the past and see it through the eyes Maud (Carey Mulligan) that had enough of her mistreatment living at that time.

It was a well acted movie, I want to shout out to these two specific actors who really brought their presence right on the screen: Brendan Gleeson and Carey Mulligan. The costumes and atmosphere of that era were brought right through the screen and I think this is just a great example of good filmmaking. I may not agree totally with feminism, but I can respect the history and appreciate the lengths people would have to go to get their message heard before social media.

Now that its off Netflix, I may borrow this movie again soon from this library to re-watch it on a larger screen on Blu-Ray and check out the special features. Very good movie.

Seems like there are a lot of touchy men making negative comments. Are we still supposed to be in the kitchen?

A realistic version of the movement. Women bore the children who fought for their country, went to war and died. Yet they had very little say about those children, much like third world countries today.

Men won the right to vote in this country by sacrificing their blood and their lives.
-
Women were given the right to vote because of suffragists nagging of men.
-
This movie is a story of that nagging.
-
Personally, I think that only if you are eligible to be drafted into military service, hence have the potential to risk your life for your country at the behest of the government, should you have the right to vote. It's easy to point to someone else and say "you go and fight for me for my right to (name that 'right')" when you have no chance at all of being drafted yourself and risking your life.

This badly conceived, over-hyped "feminist movement" picture was nothing but a predictable, little chick flick that contained just about every single, stinking cliche in the book, and then some.

If nothing else - Its story certainly proved, beyond a doubt, that women are just as prone to brutal violence as are men.

I can't begin to tell you how much I wish that Meryl Streep would retire from film, once and for all. She is so utterly annoying.

What oppressive patriarchy looked like in the modern cradle of parliamentary democracy. What heroic lengths women went to win the franchise. I couldn't help but think of the 53% of white women who voted Trump last fall.

Informative and well-done movie about courageous women 100 years ago.
