The plot is impossible to describe but, basically, it's about a 20 something named Otto (Estevez) who works as a repo man. That's about it...the movie chronicles all his bizarre adventures and strange people he meets.
There are many great lines--too many to get in one viewing--this film demands multiple viewings. The actors deal well with the offbeat dialogue and situations--especially Estevez and Stanton. As for what it means---who cares? Every time I saw it I saw something different in it.

A classic. Do not miss!

🚘 Unique and hilarious punker black comedy. The running gag with generic label products was topical at the time, it may go over the head of audiences now. Learn things about John Wayne you never knew before!

Three things you need to know about this movie, and why it is awesome:

1) Its the best film of the career of Harry Dean Stanton
2) Its the best punk rock movie of the 80's
3) "A lot of people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch of unconnected incidents and things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice of coincidence that lays on top of everything. Give you an example, show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate of shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, "plate," or "shrimp," or "plate of shrimp" out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconsciousness."

An 80's classic. Lot's of funny things happening in the background of scenes so you can find new laughs the second, third, etc. viewings.

Released in 1984 - Repo Man was an instant cult-movie about a new wave punk who takes a job repossessing cars.

This film mixes social satire with science fiction. This format works well only about half the time.

A little "too weird" for my taste, but a somewhat interesting, albeit silly, plot with unexplained (and goofy) plot twists. The ending was stupid and the screenwriter tried (frantically) to pull all the loose ends together by having the "unexplained" people meet and say "hi" in a hospital just prior to the climax. Not a satisfying use of my time and I won't recommend it because of all the gratuitous violence.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box.

Most imaginative sci fic crime comedy with bit of everything from poking fun at Ronald Reagan, ufo/aliens, evangelical scams, wishy washy politics and of course drug/car culture in the gritty shadow of L.A. during the early 1980's.

Miller: John Wayne was a fag.
All: The hell he was.
Miller: He was, too, you boys. I installed two-way mirrors in his pad in Brentwood, and he come to the door in a dress.

Bud: Credit is a sacred trust, it's what our free society is founded on. Do you think they give a damn about their bills in Russia? I said, do you think they give a damn about their bills in Russia?
Otto: They don't pay bills in Russia, it's all free.
Bud: All free? Free my ass. What are you, a xxxx' commie? Huh?
Otto: No, I ain't no commie.

Agent Rogersz: Good evening, Otto. This is Agent Rogersz. I'm going to ask you a few questions. Since time is short and you may lie, I'm going to have to torture you. But I want you to know, it isn't personal
