Raised and sheltered by her Aunt Sophie, Laura Carroll's life has been comfortable but uneventful until the conditions contained in her aunt's will plunge her into an exotic setting where she doesn't know the language.

There she is as bored as she knew she would be and out of books to read when she finds a Prince Charming named Esteban, who works in the palatial hotel, but she can't talk to him! They devise a charade of signals, words, and phrases each of them know in Spanish and English and body language. Their easy and fun relationship and grows into love as Laura tries to find out more about him. Just as Esteban tells Laura he loves her, he receives a mysterious message and leaves.

When Esteban doesn't return by the time Laura has to leave, she returns home broken-hearted. Who summoned Esteban away from her, and will he ever return? Will she ever see him again? Can their love endure?
