the original is way more scary then the remake one. The remake one looks likes a pg various like the original that's straight pg-13

Did not watch the original but this remake is awful. Sam Rockwell is a good actor, but it seemed like he wasn't into this one. You know a horror movie is bad when you're rooting for the ghost to kill a college student for asking dumb questions to a kid. Please skip this one, no redeeming value to watching it, CGI for certain inanimate objects to be scary is comical.

This film was good but the original is always the best but still liked it and enjoyed this version.

This is a decent show! Not the best, but for a 1943 movie really good. The scariest thing about this movie though, were the creepy things that happened while and after filming. Real skeletons, disturbances not part of the movie that happened on set and of corse the deaths of many actors. Good acting! Overall kinda creepy. Some scene were great and scary the chairs, the meat, the face part. The movie along with being creepy was funny (especially the last scene of the movie).

This fantasy/thriller film is probably one of the better horror movies that I have seen in awhile. A family notices strange ghost and spirit apparitions visiting them through their television screen. At the beginning the family is just amazed, until the spirits turn dark and their youngest child goes missing. This movie approaches horror in an interesting way, by avoiding gore and focusing more on the fear of things that you can’t see or understand. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars and recommend it to those who don’t like gory horror films and prefer more laid back films. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

I decided to re-watch the original 1982 classic movie, before getting into this version. I must say...there are differences and this version has more visual and CGI effects. But, overall this version was also worth watching. I would watch it again!
There were some funny scenes and some scary scenes. This movie keeps in your seat with the intense horror thrill, you would not expect.

A suspense horror classic! Well shot, and will make you look twice at television snow.

If I could, I would give this re-make a huge fat 0! What a time-waster! The CGI ghost fx were cool but not as amazing as the original ...what couldn't pop up coffins towards the end of the movie like in the original? Oh I guess that would be too scary for kids today. Please ...they've seen more horror in real and fantasy than ever. And how can their neighbors be SO oblivious to what was happening towards the end? Plus, I didn't get the ending either. Do they spend the rest of their lives buying but not buying homes because the little girl with the stuffed pig told them not to get it? Is she still talking to the spirits inside it? We may never know. Though, there were plenty of references to the first two original Poltergeist movies, I'm sticking with the original. At least, that one gave me nightmares for days (due to that clown scene). This one was completely laughable scary. Avoid this rental. You've been warned.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: What Dimmu16 said, as well as when the guy "rips his face off."

Coarse Language: The occasional swears.

Violence: Well its a horror film. The family is attacked!

Dimmu16 Apr 29, 2012

Frightening or Intense Scenes: When Carol Anne is sucked into the other sitde. And when Robbie is kidnapped. Oh and when they try to get Carol Anne back near the end. And a few others.

Dimmu16 Apr 09, 2012

Other: I have noticed that a lot of the actors have passed away. Sad! Carol Anne - Heather O'Rourke (1975-1988 12 years old), Dana - Dominique Dunne (1959-1982 22 years old), Tangina - Zelda Rubinstein (1933-2010 76 years old), Dr Lesh - Beatrice Straight (1914-2001 86 years old). Some people think this is the work of The Poltergeist Curse.

Diane: What do you think you're doing?

Tangina: I'm going in after her.

Diane: She won't come to you. Let me go.

Tangina: You've never done this before.

Diane: Neither have you.
