Somehow I never got around to seeing this until now! I found the story a little hard to get into at first but then once we hit a pivotal plot point it all started coming together, as you see how the different story lines interweave. Emma Thompson and Helena Bonham Carter shine as a pair of upper-class sisters (reminding me rather of Elinor and Marianne from "Sense and Sensibility"), who get caught up in the lives of both a very wealthy family and an extremely poor couple. As the elder sister's fortunes change for the better as she marries into that family, the younger sister gets caught up in the miseries of the other couple and her growing insistence regarding who is truly to blame for their troubles. Lovely to look at as are all Merchant/Ivory productions and well-acted by all, including Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave, and Prunella Scales.

Directed by James Ivory in 1992 based on the 1910 novel of the same name by E. M. Forster, this British romantic drama delves into the class relations in turn-of-the-20th-century Britain.
As the third adaptation of the Forster novel following "A Room with a View" in 1985 and "Maurice" in 1987, this drama seems to depict the turn-of-the-20th-century Britain more vividly.
However, the script appears somewhat roundabout, though the acting of the cast looks great.

The film closely mirrors the book and includes several documentary features, including filming and costuming "of the times".

Rated 2/10. I found this to be quite boring - overloaded with useless dialogue.

Classic movie adaptation of a classic book. The British always do these so well. A must for college students (or college bound teens) who don't have time to read the book but want to be thought literate.

Howard's End is a good British movie that I recommend for the acting and drama.
