I picked this up thinking it was a documentary, but it is a feature film based on the true story of the 332nd Fighter Squadron. The Tuskeegee Airmen were an American company of black airmen during WWII. In the 1940s, discrimination / prejudice was rampant and for black airmen getting into and being used by the U.S. military was challenging, but these pilots as most of the world soon learned “courage knows no color” (DVD liner notes). The DVD is very interesting, has lots of classic planes (for those interested in such), some blood (plane crashes and casualties from plane fights) but no swearing or sex. A piece of U.S. history that should be acknowledged and appreciated by all.

Excellent historical movie that holds your attention throughout!

The film begins with the arrival of Black pilot enlistees at Tuskegee. Several training events/incidents are portrayed as we get to know the core characters. The film follows the pilots to North Africa and then Italy.

I have several issues with the selective compression of the Tuskegee story, and the compression of planes to 1 B-17 and 2 P-51's. Some historical inaccuracies include the introduction of P-51s too early in the story (they first flew P-38s and P-47s) and earlier models of the P-51 before the famous D model with its bubble canopy.

Other technical issues are the P-51s flying in battle with wing fuel tanks in place. The WW II film footage near the movie's climax shows a 4 plane squadron dropping their tanks prior to engaging the German fighters.

Viewers should also see "Red Tails" that presents some different events and tells shared events from a different viewpoint.

Awsome movie. No one should be considered disposable no matter what color their skin, we all bleed the same

Beyond being a movie, what's really important with this is that it showcases the accomplishments and contributions of black soldiers during the war. That they fought with heroism and courage is a fact that needs to be known. There was also a Japanese US fighter squadron, US citizens, that helped fight the Japanese during the war.
