This film is typical Capra: schmaltzy, idealistic, preachy, and corny, but also dark, cynical, funny, perceptive, mature, and brilliant. Some scenes run too long, but, overall, this is an excellent political drama, as relevant today as it was in 1948. The cast and screenplay are terrific. However, you may not like this movie if you are not a political junkie or history buff.

Not as good as other Hepburn/Tracy films. Try "Adam's Rib," "Pat & Mike," or "Desk Set."
