Co-written by Oren Moverman and Alessandro Camon, THE MESSENGER is a powerful and tender story about a returned war hero making his first steps toward a normal life.In his first leading role, Foster stars as Will Montgomery, a U.S. Army officer who has just returned home from a tour in Iraq and is assigned to the Army's Casualty Notification service. Partnered with fellow officer Tony Stone (Harrelson) to bear the bad news to the loved ones of fallen soldiers, Will faces the challenge of completing his mission while seeking to find comfort and healing back on the home front. When he finds himself drawn to Olivia (Morton), to whom he has just delivered the news of her husband's death, Will's emotional detachment begins to dissolve and the film reveals itself as a surprising, humorous, moving and very human portrait of grief, friendship and survival.Featuring tour-de-force performances from Foster, Harrelson and Morton, and a brilliant directorial debut by Moverman, THE MESSENGER brings us into the inner lives of these outwardly steely heroes to reveal their fragility with compassion and dignity.

An interesting movie depicting how next of kin are informed of their loved ones death in the military. A little long at times but Woody brings some good comedic relief. Not a great movie, but OK.

A film I found difficult to watch about the men who make first contact with the families of fallen soldiers. I was initially confused by the absence of an ending, but it's not really over, is it?

Very unpleasant job, but someone will have to do it. Sorrow, anger, sadness and somehow new beginning.

Good job by the exbartender from Cheers. Thought the love angle was somewhat out of place for the sargent but I can see the job they had would be extremely difficult and how emotions can be stretched esp for such an illegitimate war as Iraq

Felt like an accurate portrayal of what has to be an extremely difficult job. Good acting.

about the army messenger job.
how hard it is to convey a soldier's death message to their family.i really don't understand why most of the hollywood movies inject unnecessary sexual scenes, smoking, alchohol and f-dialogues into the people's minds.it really damages young people's future.any movie deserves better scenes and dialogues than them.
