Three years in the making, this riveting new documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Joe Berlinger (Brother's Keeper, Paradise Lost, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster) tells the epic story of one of the largest and most controversial legal cases on the planet. An inside look at the infamous ¤27 billion "Amazon Chernobyl" case, Crude is a real-life, high stakes legal drama involving global politics, the environmental movement, celebrity activism, human rights advocacy, multinational corporate power, and the fate of disappearing indigenous cultures. Subverting the conventions of advocacy filmmaking, this award-winning film explores a complex situation from all angles, bringing an important story of environmental peril and human suffering into focus. "Absolutely the most powerful, emotion- provoking, heart-wrenching documentary I have ever seen." (John Perkins, Author, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man)

Everyone should watch this film about the destruction of the Amazonian rain forest by big oil and take some action. Unbelievably, this case is still unresolved decades later.

It is interesting to hear the Chevron 'environmentalist' say that in the US, hydrocarbons are everywhere, in our asphalt, etc. Would she want it in her water to drink, bath, and immerse herself, children, and community? Yes, the defense stood to gain a huge percentage of the award, however, it cannot be an excuse to refuse to clean up 3 decades of negligence of due diligence.

http://amazonwatch.org/work/chevron. "Unlike BP's Gulf spill that was the result of a single cataclysmic event, Texaco's oil extraction system in Ecuador was designed, built, and operated on the cheap using substandard technology from the outset. This led to systematic pollution from multiple sources on a daily basis for almost three decades"

I feel that it is an obvious understatement to say that there is extreme oil contamination in Ecuador, as evidenced by the film, Crude. However, I would also have to agree that there is a question as to who is responsible for the contamination. Moreover, it breaks my heart to think that the people in the affected communities are not getting the help they need because of the perpetuation of this 15 plus year case. At some point, humanity has to win. More focus needs to be placed on the people affected, rather than on the outcome of the trial, in my opinion.

I had no idea that Ecuador was an oil producing nation. The native people are suffering, even having seen their own children die as a consequence. The case has been dragged out, reminding me how justice delayed is justice denied, and how this benefits one side of the case and one side only.

The big bad company thought that by taking the court case back to South America that they would not only win the case, but bribe their way through to their desired conclusion. Also a really good look at the question, who is responsible for the damaged caused to the environment while exploring natural resources: Is it the first company, the latest to pollute or should they all get their turn? Many difficult topics are covered in this DVD. It was also interesting to see how the people were prepped by lawyers before presenting their case to the general American public. Shownmanship and manoeuvrings on all sides, all to give a voice to those who have paid the most for the results of oil exploration.
