it wasn't a story that pulled me in. i didn't feel like i could read it non-stop.

Really good and very creepy! Not your usual Archie that's for sure. Some very disturbing and legitimately scary bits to this tale. I dreamed of zombies the night I finished this.

I had no idea what to expect from this when I picked this up, but once I did I couldn't put it down. A different twist for an Archie story, but as a horror fan I enjoyed this and really hope the library picks up the rest of the series, I would love to read them all to the end.

An out of continuity tale- which is probably why it works better than the typical Archie always torn between two or three women, Jughead gorges himself eating, and Reggie's a jerk storylines of the usual Archieverse. Zombies arise in Riverdale, sending the usual gang into unexpected directions and exposing secrets. One such friendship dynamic will never look the same after this. It's definitely not for kids, and it's not rendered in the traditional style that you would expect out of Archie comics, which is another reason why it works well.

Good story, but this would have been so much better if the art was done in the same style as actual Archie comics. And it's just not even close. A couple of the variant covers at the back were classic Archie style, and they were awesome.

That was really enjoyable. I haven't been reading Archie all along - most of my experience with Archie is reading some ancient ones that belonged to my mom and her siblings up at our family cottage but I know enough to get by and to feel the heartstrings tugged a little bit. You know that this comic is not messing around from the first few pages, when Sabrina works forbidden magic to save Jughead's beloved dog and then reaps the consequences of that act. From that point on we're in Riverdale done via the Walking Dead but reading such a lighthearted comic in these dark terms just makes it that much more harrowing; especially as beloved characters start dropping like flies or are forced to do terrible things to keep themselves unzombified.

The art is shrouded in darkness even before the zombie infestation gets going properly. Jughead comes to Sabrina at night, the main events take place the night of a school dance or in people's sickrooms. Even if you hadn't seen the title of this volume beforehand you know from the colours and the art that this isn't your normal bright and sunny Riverdale where our worst problems are who Archie will take to the dance.

As Dillon says early on: "It's a zombie apocalypse...don't ask questions, just accept it."

Wonderful mash-up of The Walking Dead and Archie Comics. I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Definitely not for children, unless you are looking to traumatize them.
