Much of the appeal of this film is lost on me, given that I am neither British, nor a drinker, nor a member of a tight-knit group of teenage friends who've grown up and apart into middle age. The comedy largely doesn't work for my sensibilities, due to this lack of resonance; most of the antics of the gang don't appeal to me. What I do very much enjoy however, are the structure of the story, the narrative themes that emerge at the climax, and above all the "villains" which end up squaring off against our "heroes"; this bizarre variation on a good-vs-evil dynamic is very enjoyable (and seems quite relevant to our times, IMO). The film's music also keeps me invested, particularly the inclusion of "This Corrosion" as the end credits song; it's a classic for good reason. Though not my definition of a compulsively rewatchable film that I'd want to own, it's definitely worth checking out once or twice and giving it a look; it may well prove subtly brilliant on a second viewing, as numerous seeds may have been sewn which I didn't catch until after they paid off. (One caveat: the particular copy I got out from the library had a scratch on the disk which rendered one significant establishing scene unwatchable, so I had to skip over several bits of the setup. Hopefully other copies are in better shape.)

Simon Pegg is a extremely talented actor/writer/producer who is under valued. He is great in this movie,, and the story is original compared to some of the reboots now. I enjoyed the story of the man child who is trying to reconnect with friends after hitting bottom. Out of pity and loyalty they join him for a pub crawl they never finished in their younger, brighter days. Fun movie. Simon does a great job, as do all the actors. I will also say his addition to the Mission Impossible series was a brilliant idea. I really hope he wins an Oscar someday.

Watched this recently when I couldn't stand reading more about politics and just like a good pub crawl should it took my mind off things.

Let nothing stand between you and your life goals; be it friendship, relationships or the literal end of the world. Worth it.

This is a 2013 British SF supposedly comical drama directed by Edgar Wright.
It is the third and final film in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, following Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007).
Although it is supposed to be funny, it doesn't seem to me funny at all because all the actors are overacting unnaturally.
I feel like as if canned laughters forced me to laugh my head off, but I remain dead-silent and frozen to death.
It is NOT definitely my cup of tea.

By far the weakest link in the Cornetto Trilogy but fans of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz will find some things to appreciate here.

Simon Pegg does his nerd sci-fi comedy thing. Not annoying, but I never laughed.

an odd, mostly unfunny misfire from Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright. aside from the general lack of originality here (it's basically a cross between Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Wright's own Shaun of the Dead), this movie takes FOREVER to get started, with what must be at least 15 minutes of boring backstory inflicted on the viewer. and once it does get going, it still isn't especially good or interesting. of course, these are just MY OPINIONS. it is a comedy and comedy is certainly a genre that resists any kind of objective interpretation. but i found this movie both unfunny and uninteresting, so it didn't work for me. and a PS to this movie's defenders: if you really feel compelled to insult anyone who disagrees with you over this film, i'd like to politely suggest that you need help of some sort. it's just a movie. the fact that someone else doesn't like it is really not something you should lose sleep over.
