This film released in 1957 should be of interest to those studying the history of the racism of the Hollywood film industry from its very beginnings until today. Samuel Fuller directed this rather ordinary, somewhat low budget, film about French Foreign Legionnaires from various countries fighting to help France dominate its colony of Vietnam (way before America's involvement). Fuller was one of the very few American directors of that time that were interested in exploring the subject of American white supremacy. While the film included the controversy of including a black lead, singer Nat King Cole, the victim of the American white racism was perpetrated against a very young Chinese or Vietnamese boy.
