From Library Staff

This is the story that will always take you by the hand and pushe you out the door whenever you long for some adventure in your life. After all, the road goes ever on and on...

The film trilogy is impressive--but took some liberties.

A fantasy classic!

An admirable production of a terrific book. The acting work is top-notch, although I am not a fan of Gandalf's voice. Of the 5 discs, only four cover the book; the fifth is music and an interview with Tolkien. Minimal narration makes it feel like a real theatrical production, live or on-screen, but the audio-only format does make certain scenes a little chaotic and nonsensical. While effective, the dialogue queues are a little groan-inducing and make you wish you could just watch the film or read the book, instead of hearing Bilbo explain everything happening around him.

One of the greatest works of fantasy literature in existence, The Hobbit is timeless and as captivating in the late 2010s as it was in the 1930s when it was first published.

An enjoyable read that never gets old. The characters have depth and Tolkien in my opinion is one of the greatest literary writers. His work is as good as Edgar Allen Poe and William Shakespeare. The story is about how heroes and adventurers come from the most unexpected characters.

Tolkien is known as the “Father of Modern Fantasy” for a reason; telling a fantastic epic of a little man named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins, a wealthy little Hobbiton, lives in the luxurious Bag End, the Baggins Family home, and has had a yearning for adventure. Tolkien manages to set up a realistic fantasy life of the Shire citizens by going on to include obscure family rivalries that have bore on for generations. When the “call to action” finally approaches Bilbo leaves in the presence of thirteen dwarves and a Wizard named Gandalf the Grey on a quest to reclaim a throne long destroyed in the dwarven homeland. Goblins, orcs, giant eagles, spider, trolls, and dragons, The Hobbit has it all. Fair warning though; because the book was published in 1937 the writing style of Tolkien might be a little hard to follow, so be prepared to look up words. All in all, if you’re looking to find your next fantasy novel or looking to start reading them, The Hobbit is a great place to start. Rating 5/5

The Hobbit is a fantasy novel that tells the story of one hobbit who went on an adventure and actually enjoyed it. Bilbo Baggins is disturbed from his comfortable, luxurious life by Gandalf, a wizard, who sends Bilbo on an adventure with 13 dwarves. The group meets trolls, elves, goblins, wolves, and more on this fantasy-filled journey. The final destination is the mountain where the dragon, Smaug, resides over his stolen treasure. To find out how this wonderful story ends, I recommend you read this prequel to the Lord of the Rings series. On a scale of 1 to 5, I rate this book a 5 because it was a great book filled with adventure on every page. Catherine P., grade 11, of the Yorba Linda Teen Book Bloggers

Its a very good, peaceful book no doubt but if you like reading fast not so much. J.R.R. Tolken really tries to slow down his readers.

When I first read the Hobbit I really didn't like it but then I watched a tv show where the protagonists really liked the book (Stranger Things) so I decided to re-read it and I found that I really like it! Now I can not wait to read the Lord of the Rings!

A timeless and well-crafted fairytale, just serious enough to be enjoyed by all audiences. The Hobbit has aged a bit better than Tolkien's later books.

This is my favorite book!

This is for the BBC Radio audiobook.
I suggest NOT to get this. Due to it being a radio recording, there is way too much background noise, especially some sort of flute, that makes it hard to hear the dialogue.
