Intouchables.
An irreverent, uplifting comedy about friendship, trust, and human possibility. Based on a true story of friendship between a handicapped millionaire and his street-smart ex-con caretaker, The Intouchables depicts an unlikely camaraderie rooted in honesty and humor between two individuals who, on the surface, would seem to have nothing in common.
Audience: OFRB rating: 14A for language and some drug use.

One of my all-time favourite movies. I always forget that I am reading subtitles. Based on a true story, the movie is inspiring about overcoming obstacles, friendship, possibilities, and transforming lives. Very funny, too....I laughed aloud in parts! Superb acting.

. This is based on a true story, with a little different twist. The actors did a superb job, Sy Omar in particular as the young immigrant caretaker burned up the screen. A paralyzed rich man who needs a caretaker picks a young immigrant who has zero experience, but a zest for life.. The caretaker, and his patient go on some adventures, and develop a friendship. This movie has been remade in the US recently as The Upside I understand. I do not think the US version can improve on the French original.

I totally agree with the reviews! See this film in French with subtitles - the language adds to the beauty of the film. Omar Sy is mesmerizing on screen - you cannot keep your eyes off him. He and Francois Cluzet both hold your attention on screen and the film's take on an invalid dependent on aid from an assistant was handled with grace, humor and heart.

Funny and yet the film explores those tensions that many struggle to effectively express: (dis)ability, race, privilege and the many facets of love.

Although I don’t speak French fluently, I still found this movie to be an absolutely heartwarming and inspiring film. Through subtitles, I was able to clearly see what the producers were trying to showcase; the fact that differences, which are significant in this case, cannot stop an incredibly strong bond and relationship from forming between 2 people who have little to nothing in common. The storyline itself was extremely moving and well-written and the producers explored a wide range of appropriate content for mature audiences. Not only did the producers provide first-hand and second-hand perspectives of what it’s like to be handicapped and/or be a caregiver for those who are handicapped, but they included countless details that haven’t been discussed or disclosed in depth in most movies with a similar plot. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed watching this emotion-packed film and I’d definitely recommend it to mature audiences looking for a comedic approach to disclosing the personal aspects of a sensitive topic. @BiggerPictureReviews of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library.

Both an enjoyable romp as two cultures meet, clash, and find common areas, plus insight into how someone in a wheelchair chooses to pursue a real life--or not. This is based on a true story.

I watched this film with my Mom ( in her 80's) and my 4 sisters, and we all absolutely loved it. An affecting, authentic film about two men from completely different worlds developing a meaningful relationship with one another. Some themes in common with "Me Before You", but I gotta say this French film outshines its counterpart. Nominated in 2013 for the Golden Globe Best Foreign Film (lost to "Amour"); winner/nominee for many indie and major film awards.

Other: Prostitution is portrayed as normal, as is marijuana use. There is, however, a strong scene where the older brother ensures his younger brother gets pulled out of trafficking cocaine.

(Phillipe is dictating a letter to Magalie, to his penpal, Eléonore) Phillipe: "Her shining eyes are made of charming minerals, and in this strange, symbolic world..." Magalie: "And in this strange... symbolic... world..." Driss: "F*cking boring!" Phillipe: "...where the inviolate angel and ancient sphinx..." Magalie: "Is that with an 'i' or a 'y'?" Driss: "This is killing my mind." Phillipe: "'Sphinx' is with an 'i'." Driss: "Why bother with this crap? Sphinxes, daisies, angels... You'd go for this stuff?" Magalie: "True, one could be more direct. ..."And ancient sphinx..." Go on." Driss: "What's she look like?" Phillipe: "I don't know. That's not what matters. It's intellectual and emotional, not physical. I want a mind-to-mind relationship." Driss: "If she's a troll, it'll be mind-to-troll!"
