When the daughter of a billionaire Hollywood director is found murdered after what appears to be a kidnapping gone wrong, Los Angeles Special Trials prosecutor Rachel Knight and Detective Bailey Keller find themselves at the epicenter of a combustible and high-profile court case. Then a prime suspect is revealed to be one of Hollywood's most popular and powerful talent managers--and best friend to the victim's father. With the director vouching for the manager's innocence, the Hollywood media machine commences an all-out war designed to discredit both Rachel and her case. KILLER AMBITION is at once a thrilling ride through the darker side of Tinseltown and a stunning courtroom drama with the brilliant insider's perspective that Marcia Clark is uniquely qualified to give.

This third Rachel Knight novel was much better than the second one, Guilt by Degrees, which was a disappointment with its over-the-top convoluted plot. I think one of the things that makes Killer Ambition so much better is that the plot is much less confusing, although to be sure we are thrown red herrings along the way, but everything ties together in the end. It's also driven more by the courtroom drama than Guilt by Degrees and its convoluted plot. Finally the characters in this novel hold our interest throughout the story.

This was the first Marcia Clark novel that I read so I had no idea about her talent. The first part was a little slow and if she was sitting in front of me, I'd tell her that her constant reference to the weather (Los Angeles) gets pretty boring. (You want weather? Come to Ottawa). The other item that drags on is that we have to know what everyone is wearing and this does not move the story forward nor does her bouts of non-stop drinking and hangovers. However, her description of Los Angeles and its inhabitants is priceless and then, about the half way mark, Clark got me hooked. Her real genius is in the way she writes up the trial: the foibles, surprises, failures and humanity. At this point, the novel becomes a page turner and by the end of it, I couldn't wait to read another. On a special note, I LOVED the Dorian character: mean, crusty, zero tolerance and the best in her field (with a killer sense of humor). Lots of fun, twists and surprises in this one; you won't be disappointed.

This is the first book I've read by Marcia Clark and it did not disappoint! The plot moved along easily and the eventual courtroom drama was exciting. A page turner in this genre for sure!

#3 in the Rachel Knight series and again, Marcia Clark does not disappoint. When a young woman is kidnapped, her wealthy father pays the ransom. Has her boyfriend had a hand in her disappearance? Is it a plot between the two of them? Strong female characters and clever, intelligent plotting make this series a good one.

The book was okay – but not one of my favorites.
