Add a CommentAn overwrought couple with marital issues seeks out a remote, isolated island in an attempt at a cathartic rejuvenation of spousal intimacy. Ironically, the mercenary outside world intrudes on their quest via the appearance of a high octane interloper. Retreat does not offer anything in the way of novel revelations. Nevertheless, the ending makes a spot on statement as regards the trustworthiness of the ruling establishment.
Really horrible to watch, sort of a psychological/crime thriller?
Don't expect an apocalyptic setting.
The first 50 minutes could be an examination of somebody who is a little looney trying to convince sane people that the looney person is sane and not vice versa. Like how far will the sane people let the loony run the show? Kinda like the Tea Party 30 bringing the 2013 global economy to the brink of disaster. Will the “sane” stop the madness? Then it becomes a different movie. Nicely done psychological thriller.
Decent. In the vein of "Pacific Heights" or "Dead Calm". Thought the ending was well written for what it was.
Suffers from a slow pace, but has a great ending
It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”
Psychology was interesting and it passed the time, but the plot is extremely predictable and noneventful.
Less wasn't more here. Decent performances didn't flesh out a thin plot. I never felt a real intensity that a film like this would have to have to really deliver. I did feel the need to watch it to conclusion, and the conclusion was a surprise and relatively satisfying. However, the overall trip wasn't worth the destination.
A decent thriller, reasonably fraught with tension and suspense. I like Cillian Murphy's work, he's a good actor. Thandie Newton did her job, and Jamie Bell showed his chops for the wingnut baddie role. No Oscars here, but it was decent.
it was a pretty simple movie, nothing truly horrible or spectacular. i just love cillian murphy. thandie newton usually overacts a bit too much for me.
