2/5 stars. Project X is a 2012 American comedy film directed by Nima Nourizadeh. The film is shot through the perspective of three friends, Thomas, Costa, and J.B making a movie about Thomas’s birthday. They plan to through the craziest party ever, in an effort to gain popularity, but they quickly lose control of the party. There is speculation that this movie is actually based on a real incident in 2008 in Australia where a teen, Corey Delaney, threw a party when his parents were gone, which ended with 500 people romping in the streets and the riot police having to show up. The film is exceedingly crude, but not to the detriment of the plot. There are some genuinely funny moments, but I can see how some wouldn’t enjoy the movie. As a teenager myself, I thought the film was fun, but obviously my opinion is biased. There undoubtedly some important cinematic devices missing from this movie. The majority of the movie is taken up by ludacris shots of the party taking place with loud music blaring. Why not use some of this time to develop the otherwise flat characters, or explore some deeper theme? I think there is a reason we haven’t seen anything of note from the main actors after this movie, they lack comedic timing, charisma, and basic acting ability. This one isn’t something you should watch unless you want dumb, crude entertainment. @Joaquin of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Project X is a party movie which follows three highschool seniors Thomas, Costa, and JB, who attempt to gain a bit of popularity before their graduation by throwing a small; under-control party at Thomas's parents's house (whom just so happened to go away for the weekend). After scoring a bag of special herb for the party in a house filled with cabinets of alcohol, the next step for Thomas, Costa, and JB is to invite some popular students, set up the party and get ready. I won't dive into details of what exactly happens in the movie although it being a party movie, I believe it's pretty self-explanatory for any teenager and some parents using the information I just presented. The only other party movie I have ever watched in my life other than Project X is Super Bad, however unlike Project X that was more of a comedy than a strictly party oriented movie. Project X has been said to be the best party movie ever, however I cannot imagine there is all that much competition considering Project X and Super Bad are really the only ones I can name off the top of my head. That being said, Project X is not a bad movie.....for what it was intended to be. You cannot watch a party movie and go into it expecting a giant plot with emotionally driven characters that are all that relateable. Project X is not a movie you are going to watch and comeback feeling moved or like you had a life changing experience. To put it simply Project X is a good party movie and only that. There is alcohol, MDMA, Marijuana, topless girls, non-graphic sex scenes, and a lot of provocative events that occur throughout the movie as well as some slightly violent scenes that are comedically driven due to them being extremely outlandish and coming out of nowhere seemingly. Project X is a movie that will be enjoyed while watching without the accompaniment of parent(s) or guardian(s). This movie is enjoyable if you are in the mood to watch a fun movie that does not require any deep thinking (or really any thinking at all), great party music with some out of the ordinary events and a script containing quite a few quotables. I rate Project X 5/10; (for a party movie and the enjoyabillity factor) an 8/10. Keep calm and party on, "Till the break of dawn y'all!"

More or less something you'd find on a home video camera movie and probably done ten times better.

I had little hope of liking this movie and ended up loving it. Total guilty pleasure, but a really effective teen party flick. The party is just crazy. Sadly, I will likely watch this again hence the 4 stars.

Dad: I just didn't think you had it in you.

Thomas: I know. Sorry I let you down.

Dad: No, I literally didn't think you had this in you. So uh, how many people were here?

Thomas: Uh, 15 hundred. Couple thousand maybe.

Dad: Wow.

Thomas: You should have seen it. It was awesome.

Dad: Well, you're still f&*ked Thomas.
