Directed by Michael Winterbottom in 2009 based on Naomi Klein's provocative book of the same name, this 78-minute documentary delves into the "disaster capitalism" of today's world.
The film traces the doctrine's beginnings from the theories of Milton Friedman and the Chicago School economists through its implementation over the past 40 years in Pinochet's Chile, Yeltsin's Russia, Thatcher's Britain and the America's Neo-Con directed invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
It's quite amazing to know that the Pentagon helps the American defence industies and contractors make a great deal of money with a series of wars.

Author Naomi Klein’s bestseller examining the social and economic fallout of “disaster capitalism” around the world makes for an engrossing documentary. Starting with the infamous CIA-backed psychological experiments carried out on unwitting Montreal volunteers which proved that induced shocks, whether physical or mental, can lead to heightened complacency and weakened resistance, Klein goes on to show how those same principles have been applied to economies around the world with disastrous results. She does offer a bit of hope in the end, but judging by the failed “Occupy Wall Street” movement and the continuing marginalization of all those who dare to challenge the bastions of capitalism, it is a small offering indeed. Infuriating stuff, especially in this age of "evil immigrants" and "fake news".

6 stars out of 5 would be reasonable in this instance.

Thought provoking. What could have been if we turned the steering wheel in the other direction in the 70s.

This is a very competent overview of Klein's book. Recommended.

Very good dvd, IMO. I preferred the book of course but this dvd shows video/news footage that adds to the story. My one complaint? Too SHORT!

I watched this with a friend who was shocked by the perspective shown in this documentary. My friend was unaware of how much corporations were involved in Iraq, for e.g. From my perspective Naomi was preaching to the choir..........
