I know this is late. But this is a amazing film of it. The overall character development is neat, it follows an good concept, and the spaceship communication scene is brilliant. Truly a gem to remember.

Maybe we are not alone in this Universe, but let’s quote remarkable Carl Sagan here… “Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find…

A golden oldie, but it's aged extremely well--even most of the special effects, and especially those air-borne craft that keep zinging along. Spielberg's secret? Fly 'em at night, not during the day, so the lights suggest more than they…
Yep. This very pretty, often spectacular, display of bright, colored lights was almost completely ruined by the Roy Neary character and his anal obsession with building a sculpture of the Devil's Tower in his living room.
Another thing…

Ah, memories. I saw this on a family outing to a drive-in theater in the mid 70's.
The theater was fairly close to a small airport, which made for some interesting moments.
A few years ago, we finally visited Devil's Tower in…

Thirty years on some aspects of this film have aged poorly. The human aspect of the story holds up, but the special effects aren't worth all the wait and build up to see.... a flying ice cream cone.
Should be seen by all as a…

Not at all a fan of Richard Dreyfuss. This movie is not terrible, but he drives me nuts.

Sorry, but this film just hasn't aged very well. Other than historical interest, perhaps, for a film studies major, perhaps, it is now more than a little bit flat and boring.
