This is a good, late career film by Paul Verhoeven and a knockout , hilarious performance by Isabelle Huppert- which is odd considering the disturbing material in the film.
It's a testament to Verhoeven's stellar abilities as a filmmaker…

Isabelle Huppert is beautiful, and excellent as a self-confidant, successful, no-nonsense woman. But I really didn’t get her motivation to become involved with someone who was so cruel to her.

The whole story turns out nonsensical with a bad script.
I just cannot make sense of it at all.
The female protagonist and her neighbor appear insane.
Their actions and reactions seem irrational.
One of the worst movies!

The description of this movie is intentionally misleading.
"Elle" is a violent rape-and-beating fantasy made by mentally ill degenerates.
A smart successful woman is raped at home & openly enjoys it (Not a spoiler, it's the opening…

A high spirited self-reliant woman refused to be a victim, not even consider herself victimized after a brutal assault! Reality is that most women who experienced rape did not report to the police, let alone the courage to avenge the crime…

" You’ve never seen a rape-revenge fantasy quite like “Elle,” not least because the rape, revenge and fantasy components of that subgenre have never been quite so fascinatingly disarranged. Knowingly incendiary but remarkably cool-headed,…

This is not a funny film, in my opinion. There is explicit sexual scenes, where the person being raped, doesn't have any reason to go to the police! I cannot realize the same reaction that this woman has in this situation. The only reason…

How this movie got 2 golden globes and critics picks from LA and NY Times is beyond me. It's just plain stupid, with no one acting in a manner that has any rational basis given what is occurring. I'm not bothered by the subject matter, as…

An incredibly perverse story. The main character invites an unknown, masked rapist to brutally attack her, again and again. Strangely, she never shows any ill effects after these encounters - no bruising, split lips, black eyes,…

Interesting, provocative, disturbing. Many actresses likely shunned the role because it does play to men's fantasies and misconceptions about women and rape. The claim that the film is about female empowerment is as unconvincing as the…

Isabelle Huppert plays a daughter of a mass murderer and the victim of a rapist. I suppose that these two types of actions could result in a lot of demented characters. I admit that the sequence of events are kinda' weird. Huppert won the…

The movie is a thriller by being weird. Whatever action, either criminal or sexual, it is deviant. Characters in the movie are like those in video games, a reflection of evil fantasies.
The history and talent of Huppert is the only…

Once again, the viewer is asked to accept misogyny and the violent rape of a woman as campy art-house and thrilling. In this, almost every female character is depicted as grotesque in some way, incapable of love, or of being loved. While…
