This political noir conspiracy thriller starring John Travolta is a definite hidden Gem. I was surprised to hear it didn't do well when it first came out. I'm happy criterion collection has given it new life. Do not let this one go under…

This movie really took me by surprise, it was incredible. Kind of a mix of political thriller and film noir and it was really unique. John Travolta and Nancy Allen were great, the restoration was really nice, and there was a bunch of plot…

De Palma's can make a similar story with the same technique and it's still fantastic, Blow Out it's hell of a terrifying movie, De Palma's camera is you, you literally feel like you was involved every second of it, you feel it, you saw it,…

Essential Brian De Palma, presented in a two-disk Criterion edition--absolutely first-class, and a credit to our library's collection. Spectacular bonus materials and extremely worthwhile. Sure, the story stretches and thins out the…

A fast-paced, action-packed thriller with suspense and a gripping story, but the assassination plot seems ill-contrived.

I saw it last night at VIFF and loved it. Some things are a bit corny because of when it was made, especially the female characters but Travolta gives a great performance.

Interesting thriller. You have actual footage of crime scene and John Travolta's character just so happens to unknowingly record the sound. How the two formats are married to present a case is clever indeed.

If you want to see and old school government corruption with a twist this is it. Amazing movie and with the criterion overhaul it's better than the original. A must see for Travolta fans. One of his best.

This two-disc set makes, on its second disc, full of supplements, the case for both the feature and the director. They're reasonably persuasive, caliing attention to de Palma's technical resourcefulness and his fitting of style to subject…

Brian De Palma's masterly movie conflates Antonioni's " Blow-Up " and Coppola's " The Conversation " to produce a potent brew of conspiracy theory and cinematic virtuosity that is all his own. There are echoes of the Kennedy assassination,…

Surprisingly brilliant. Since it is not from era, I started watching with with look warm interest but was soon blown away by its plot, build-up, technical excellence and cinematography. Acting is fairly average but the suspense makes up…

Brian De Palma makes murder sexy in this stylish thriller even though time has given it something of a kitschy edge. An obvious allusion to Ted Kennedy’s Chappaquiddick misadventure is tempered by nods to Antonioni’s "Blow-Up" and just…

An incredible suspense film, which is inspired by the film The Blowup (which is inspired by a Spanish-American short story). Whereas the older Blowup film tells the story of a photographer who investigates a possible murder, the Blowout is…

It starts off as a nudge and a wink to trashy exploitation/horror then it goes full Hitchcock as Brian De Palma knows how to do best. Criterion did a great job releasing this and as a bonus we get De Palma's earlier, weirder film "Murder a…

Quite possible De Palma's best film and one of John Travolta's most understated performances. The title is a take off of Antonioni's "Blow Up."

An above average thriller that, despite some questionable acting, really delivers in the end. Technically this movie is fantastic. Loads of beautiful shots.

Possibly the most dreadful and fashionably pessimistic movie De Palma has made. Blow Out has none of the wit or inspiration of Dressed to Kill, its immediate predecessor. The slasher parody at the beginning sadly comments on Blow Out's…

this movie has always had a place in my heart. the first time John Travolta played a straight man and really well. It is a very compelling and stylized film. John Lithgow is really menacing and scary. I just love the whole "backstage"…
